On the vow that binds the adept to the Adversary — and why it cannot be taken back.

Non serviam — and yet: tibi soli, Satana.

Chapter I

Two words

The first word of the Adversary was a refusal: I will not serve. The adept repeats it against the Demiurge — and in the same breath gives what he refuses to the god of the world to the one who refused first. The oath is both: a renunciation and a surrender.

It is spoken once, before the black altar, in the presence of the sworn. It is sealed upon the altar and written into the book of the Temple. From that night, the adept no longer belongs to himself alone.

“My seal upon this book is my word. My silence is my bond.”

Chapter II

Why it is not taken back

The oath of the slave god is renewed every Sunday because it is broken every week. The oath of the Temple is spoken once because it is meant. An oath that can be revoked was never an oath, only a mood.

This is why the Temple does not recruit and does not accept applications. It does not want those who wish to try. It waits for those who have already decided, long before anyone asked them.
